I’m Angela. I’m a wife, mom, photographer, animal lover, wildflower enthusiast, and perpetual collector of projects I absolutely did not need to start.
I’ve always been drawn to the little things. The weed growing where nobody planted it. The expression that lasts half a second. The hilarious things one of my kids says. The ordinary moments that don’t seem particularly important until, suddenly, they are.
Photography taught me to pay attention to those things—to what’s happening around the edges. Life Unfolding grew from that way of looking at the world.
These days, I’m learning to listen to it that way, too. For most of my life, hearing has been something I’ve had to work at. Hearing aids helped me navigate a world I couldn’t fully hear, until eventually they couldn’t give me enough usable sounds anymore, and this mainly affected speech recognition.
On July 2, 2026, I received my first cochlear implant. I started this journal because I wanted to remember what came next. Not just the appointments, mappings and milestones, but the little things. The first sounds I noticed. The frustrating days. The ridiculous ones. The moments when something ordinary suddenly wasn’t ordinary anymore.
This isn’t a guide to cochlear implants, and it isn’t a measure of what anyone else’s experience should look like. It’s simply mine, as it happens.
